Cricket Icon Virat Kohli Opens One8 Commune in Hyderabad
In the bustling Hitech City of Hyderabad, cricket fans have a new hotspot to gather: One8 Commune. This trendy restaurant, located on the first floor of the Loft building, is co-owned by none other than cricket superstar Virat Kohli.
The restaurant’s vibrant entrance, complete with a sign that playfully declares ‘Hyderabad Kohling!’, is quickly becoming a favorite spot for selfies. Step inside, and you’ll find a warm and inviting atmosphere complemented by earthy tones and stylish wicker and cane furniture.
One8 Commune offers a delightful glimpse of city life through its large windows that overlook a stunning metal and glass high-rise. As the sun sets, the venue transforms into a lively space, perfect for enjoying music, drinks, and delicious food throughout the evening.
The restaurant doesn’t shy away from cricket themes. From the menu items to unique drink presentations, everything here reflects Kohli’s cricketing spirit. A standout feature is Kohli’s signed jersey displayed prominently, attracting many visitors eager to snap a picture with it.
Guests can indulge in various dishes inspired by Kohli’s favorites, such as the ‘mushroom cream avocado cheese googly’. This dish consists of a creatively altered version of steamed dim sum, wrapped in beetroot juice-infused dough that bursts with creamy flavors on the first bite.
For those who enjoy their drinks, the bar offers a ‘trophy pour’, designed to serve a table of four, featuring a delightful blend of blue pea flower tea, gin, and vodka. However, if you’re looking for something more personal, the mango picante — a spicy mango cocktail — is a must-try.
Corporate Chef Agnibh Mudi shared insights about One8 Commune’s unique menu, highlighting local flavors. While retaining several of Virat’s personal favorites, the restaurant has incorporated regional dishes like the Hyderabadi khatti dal and anda keema to cater to local palates.
Two standout dishes that captured the attention of diners were the ‘Byadgi mirchi paneer’, known for its spicy kick, and the zesty ‘lime chilli pickled spicy prawns’. Both incorporate local spices, enhancing their appeal.
If you’re in the mood for something milder, the avocado flatbread is an excellent choice. The extensive menu boasts a mix of modern Indian, Asian, and Continental cuisine, featuring everything from khatti dal to mutton rogan josh, pastas, and hawker-style noodles.
As for dessert, while options like tiramisu cornetto and burnt basque cheesecake await, I chose to forego dessert in favor of dining al fresco, although the mosquitoes had other plans!
