Cronulla Sharks Player Braydon Trindall Facing Legal Trouble After DUI Charge and Alleged Cocaine Test Results
Cronulla Sharks five-eighth Braydon Trindall is currently facing legal troubles after being charged with mid-range drink-driving and holding an expired license. The incident occurred just hours after the Sharks’ victory over the North Queensland Cowboys at PointsBet Stadium.
Trindall is also awaiting further test results regarding an alleged positive reading for cocaine. The NRL Integrity Unit has been notified about the situation and is currently liaising with the club.
In a statement released by the Sharks, it was revealed that Trindall failed initial roadside alcohol and drug tests early on Monday morning. The club, player, and management have mutually agreed that Trindall will not participate in games or training for the time being to focus on his welfare and health.
Trindall, who made his NRL debut in 2020 and has played 57 games for the Cronulla Sharks, was handed the No.6 jersey this season following Matt Moylan’s departure to the Super League.
It is essential to note that under World Anti-Doping Agency rules, cocaine is classified as a performance-enhancing drug only within specific timeframes and under specific circumstances.
According to NSW Police, Trindall was driving on Captain Cook Drive in Caringbah around 9:45 am on Monday when he was stopped for a routine breath test. It was during this stop that Trindall allegedly produced an expired license and returned a positive reading for alcohol, with a breath analysis reading of 0.124.
Trindall was issued infringement notices for driving with an expired license and driving with a middle-range prescribed concentration of alcohol. Additionally, he received a court attendance notice for driving with an illicit drug in his system. The player is scheduled to appear before the Sutherland Local Court on May 17, 2024.
In response to the incident, Daniel Atkinson will replace Trindall in the upcoming game against Canberra. The Cronulla Sharks organization is taking the matter seriously and is providing Trindall with the necessary welfare support during this challenging time.
Given the seriousness of the allegations, the club has decided to withhold further comments until more information becomes available. Trindall’s performance on the field this season and his recent achievements, such as winning the Preston Campbell Medal in the All Stars game, have highlighted his potential and talent in the league.
