CSK Pacer Deepak Chahar’s Injury Woes Continue in IPL 2024

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a setback as star pacer Deepak Chahar had to leave the field due to a hamstring injury during the ongoing IPL 2024 match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chepauk. CSK coach Stephen Fleming expressed concerns over Deepak Chahar’s fitness, saying the Indian pacer does not look good.

Chahar’s injury comes at a challenging time for CSK, already dealing with the absence of key bowling options. Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande are sidelined due to various issues, further complicating the team’s bowling lineup. With Chahar’s status uncertain, CSK’s defensive capabilities are under scrutiny.

Stephen Fleming also addressed the departure of Sri Lankan players for visa processing, hoping for their swift return before the next match in Dharamshala. Despite the setbacks, including flu affecting Tushar Deshpande, Fleming emphasized the team’s adaptability and the need for comfort in roles and game plans amidst ongoing challenges.

Fleming shared that the initial assessment of Deepak Chahar’s injury wasn’t promising, awaiting further reports from physio and doctors. The Sri Lankan duo, Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman, left for visa work ahead of the T20 World Cup, with hopes to rejoin the squad for the next fixture. CSK will have to make adjustments to their bowling strategies in light of the depleted resources.

CSK introduced Richard Gleeson, who made his IPL debut, as a replacement and saw positive signs in his performance. With uncertainties surrounding the availability of Pathirana, Mitchell Santner emerges as a potential option for the upcoming match against PBKS, offering a different dynamic to the bowling attack.
