Cubs Trade for Nate Pearson from Blue Jays
The Chicago Cubs have made a notable move by acquiring right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson from the Toronto Blue Jays. This trade was finalized on Saturday and involves outfielder Yohendrick Pinango and infielder Josh Rivera heading to Toronto as part of the deal.
Nate Pearson is a former top pitching prospect; however, his journey has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. Currently, he has a 5.21 ERA after appearing in 93 Major League games, with five of those being starts.
At 27 years old and under contract until 2026, Pearson has primarily been a relief pitcher for the Blue Jays in the last couple of years. Yet, he has recently expressed interest in returning to a starting role in the future.
This trade comes just as the Blue Jays announced that one of their top prospects is set to undergo Tommy John surgery. The team is clearly looking to reshape its roster after encountering some challenges this season.
The Cubs, looking toward 2025 and beyond, have decided to take a chance on Pearson’s potential while hoping to benefit from his fresh presence on a pitching staff that has been hit hard by injuries.
