Dan Evans Celebrates 150th Career Win at the Olympics
Great Britain’s Dan Evans has just hit a fantastic milestone at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games by recording his 150th win in tour-level tennis.
Evans achieved this notable feat by defeating Tunisia’s Moez Echargui with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 during his debut match for Team GB.
Since he entered the ATP Tour in 2012, Evans has not only collected these wins but also secured two ATP titles, one in Melbourne back in 2021 and his biggest one in Washington in 2023.
His journey began with a memorable first win representing his country against Slovakia in February 2012. He defeated Lukas Lacko in straight sets and later took down Martin Klizan in the final rubber of that tie.
Evans’ maiden ATP victory happened on home soil in 2013, when he stunned Argentina’s Guido Pella in the first round, winning 6-3, 6-1. He came into that tournament ranked No.569 and managed to reach the round of 16.
Over the years, this Birmingham native climbed the Pepperstone ATP rankings, reaching a career-high of world No.21 in August 2023.
One of the standout moments in his career includes his unforgettable win over world No.1 Novak Djokovic at the 2021 Monte Carlo Masters. Evans fought hard to outplay Djokovic with a score of 6-4, 7-5, marking his biggest career win in terms of ranking.
When it comes to playing surfaces, hard courts are where Evans feels most at home. Out of his 150 wins, he has achieved 114 on hard courts, alongside 20 on clay and 16 on grass.
Evans’ best Grand Slam run occurred in 2017 when he reached the fourth round. He knocked out players like Facundo Bagnis, Bernard Tomic, and then-world No.7 Marin Cilic along the way.
He replicated this fourth-round achievement at the 2021 Grand Slam, defeating Thiago Monteiro, Marcos Giron, and Alexei Popyrin.
Alongside his singles success, he has also reached the third round of Grand Slams three times and made it to the second round at the 2022 competition.
As a solid member of the Davis Cup team, Evans has contributed significantly, posting 16 wins in both singles and doubles throughout his career.
In 2023, he shone during the Davis Cup Group Stages, leading Team GB to the Finals. He won against Arthur Fils and Alex de Minaur in singles and then clinched victory in doubles with Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in a deciding match.
