Deadpool and Wolverine Hit the Box Office Like a Meteor
The latest superhero movie, Deadpool and Wolverine, is making waves at the box office! Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, it’s racked up an incredible $205 million in domestic ticket sales during its opening weekend. This not only marks the highest debut of 2024 but also sets the record for the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film.
Fans were buzzing about this movie’s release, with expectations already sky-high. Before the release, analysts estimated it would make between $160 million and $180 million. But Deadpool and Wolverine blew those numbers out of the water, showcasing that audiences still have a love for superhero action, even if it comes with a little bit of an edge.
The numbers don’t stop there. On a global scale, the film brought in $233.3 million internationally, culminating in a staggering $438.3 million worldwide! It’s a big win for not just Deadpool but the entire Marvel franchise.
This also marks a significant moment as it’s the first R-rated movie released under Disney’s banner. When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, it opened the door for characters like Deadpool and Wolverine to join the MCU. After a rough patch for Marvel at the box office, this film is a breath of fresh air.
The hype surrounding the movie was fueled by strong reviews and an impressive 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Given how well the first two Deadpool films did, fans were naturally excited about this third installment and wanted to get in on the action before any spoilers were dropped.
In addition to Deadpool and Wolverine’s record-breaking success, Disney also celebrated the success of Inside Out 2, which has become the biggest animated film ever in North America, adding to Disney’s impressive lineup.
While Deadpool dominated the weekend, other films like Twisters and Longlegs are also holding their ground at the box office. Twisters fell only 57%, which is pretty good in comparison to what could have happened against such stiff competition.
All in all, this weekend proved that the moviegoing experience is still alive and well, and that superhero stories can still draw huge crowds. Stay tuned for more updates!
