Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Granted Bail in Excise Policy Case
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy by the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi. The bail was set at a bond of Rs 1 lakh. This development comes after a series of legal proceedings that unfolded as a result of the now-scrapped liquor policy.
The decision to grant bail was made by the vacation Judge Nyay Bindu after reserving the order earlier in the day. Following the bail announcement, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sought 48 hours to explore its legal options. Despite the ED’s request, the judge declined to stall the bail order, paving the way for Kejriwal’s release.
Subsequently, the ED has expressed intentions to contest the bail decision before the Delhi High Court. Once the necessary bail bond of Rs 1 lakh is deposited, Kejriwal is expected to be freed, a process likely to unfold on the upcoming Friday.
In response to the court’s decision, jubilant AAP supporters celebrated the news outside Kejriwal’s residence with fireworks. Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh hailed Kejriwal’s impending release as a victory for democracy, denouncing the ED’s actions as motivated by falsehoods aimed at trapping the Chief Minister.
Notably, this marks the second instance of an AAP leader being granted bail in this case, with Sanjay Singh being the first. However, former Delhi minister Manish Sisodia remains incarcerated at Tihar Jail in connection to the same matter, indicating ongoing legal complexities within the case.
