Dense Fog Causes Transportation Delays in Columbus, Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A dense fog advisory has been issued for Wednesday morning, affecting visibility and resulting in transportation delays throughout the Columbus area. Several schools and businesses have announced a two-hour delay to accommodate the challenging conditions.
The advisory, instated due to fog that reduces visibility to less than a quarter mile in many areas, remains in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday. The advisory covers several counties, including Crawford, Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Fayette, Hocking, Knox, Licking, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway, Pike, Scioto, Ross, and Union.
«It’s crucial for drivers to proceed with caution,» stated a local traffic official. «We urge motorists to use low-beam headlights, reduce their speed, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles to prevent accidents.»
Weather conditions transitioned from rain on Tuesday morning to clearer skies later in the day, preceding the current foggy weather. The National Weather Service warns that the variability of visibility, transitioning from near normal to drastically reduced in dense patches of fog, poses a significant challenge for early-morning commuters.
In addition to impacting road travel, the fog may cause flight delays. Passengers are advised to verify the status of their departing and arriving flights.
The forecast anticipates a transition to rain and wind later on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to fall into Thursday. These conditions are predicted to lead to ‘Weather Impact Days’ later in the week.
