Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix Named Player of the Week, Draws Comparisons to NFL Success Stories
This week, Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix was recognized for his outstanding performance by being named Player of the Week for Week 11 of the NFL‘s 2024 season. This accolade follows his earlier recognition as Player of the Month in October.
On the «4th and 1» podcast, former NFL MVP Cam Newton praised Nix’s gameplay, stating, «I hate to say I told you so.» Before the NFL Draft in April, Newton predicted that Nix would be a significant asset, calling him «a big steal.»
Nix was chosen by the Denver Broncos as the 12th overall pick on April 25. However, his selection came after five other quarterbacks, including Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy, were drafted by the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, and Minnesota Vikings, respectively.
Newton expressed his admiration for Nix by drawing parallels to San Francisco 49ers‘ Brock Purdy, noting his skill and ability to handle challenges. He mentioned, «Bo Nix is extremely talented when things are good…Can he get out of his own head? … Has all the upside.»
So far this season, Nix has started 11 games, completing 234 out of 357 passes for 2,275 yards with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also reported running for 295 yards with four touchdowns on 63 carries.
Commenting further on Nix’s performance, Newton said last week, «Bo Nix is playing in rhythm, he’s playing within himself, and guys around him are making plays.» He commended the Broncos’ coaching staff for their successful planning and execution in developing Nix’s skills, suggesting that other teams, such as the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers, could take notes on their strategy.
Newton, himself a former Auburn quarterback like Nix, shared how he would re-rank this year’s quarterback draft class based on their performances to date, placing Jayden Daniels first, followed by Nix, Maye, and Williams.
Nix began his football journey leading Pinson Valley High School to AHSAA Class 6A championships and was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Mr. Football in his senior year. Before transferring to Oregon, Nix was Auburn’s starting quarterback from 2019 to 2021.
Bo Nix looks ahead to continue his promising rookie season as the Broncos prepare to face the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium this Sunday.
