Deshaun Watson’s Struggles and Controversies Continue at Training Camp
In the latest training camp at Greenbrier, Deshaun Watson faced tough questions about his performance and the controversies surrounding him. After all the off-field issues he’s dealt with, including allegations from more than two dozen women of harassment and assault, Watson has been trying to shift focus back to his football career.
When asked about his rehab process following shoulder surgery, Watson said, “I think, honestly, it’s really just blocking out all the bull—-.” It seems he’s determined to focus on himself and improve, regardless of the opinions of others.
Last season was particularly rough on him, especially as the city of Cleveland seemed more taken with Joe Flacco, who impressed in his time with the team. Watson felt the pressure of not being fully embraced by the fans, which can be tough for any athlete.
It’s interesting to note that Flacco succeeded in Kevin Stefanski’s offense, which only highlights how Watson hasn’t yet found his groove. The Browns even made changes to their coaching staff to cater to Watson’s playing style instead of sticking with what was working.
Despite the push to accommodate him, Watson has looked uncomfortable at times. Recently, he talked about feeling like his character has been challenged, insisting he knows who he is and that he wants people to like him, but admits it’s hard to ignore negativity.
Many still hope that if Watson can return to the form he showed in Houston and fit in with the new offense, he might eventually win over Cleveland fans. But for now, his remarks still hint at a lack of remorse for his past actions, which has not helped his image.
What catches attention is Watson’s statement, “I don’t give two f—s what other people say, to be honest.” Yet, fans might feel indifferent until he shows genuine accountability for his actions.
