Detroit Lions’ Kalif Raymond Suffers Injury During Game Against Indianapolis
During the 2024 NFL season game in Indianapolis, Detroit Lions wide receiver and return specialist Kalif Raymond left the field due to an injury sustained in the third quarter. The injury occurred during a punt return when Raymond was spun around and fell awkwardly after being hit. A teammate inadvertently landed on him during the play, compounding the impact.
Raymond, who has been a significant asset for the Lions this season following the departure of Josh Reynolds in free agency, was declared out by the team due to a foot injury. Prior to this game, Raymond had achieved 16 receptions for 204 yards and two touchdowns, not to mention his contributions in the return game.
Detroit Free Press reported that after the injury, Raymond limped off the field and entered the blue medical tent for evaluation. His time in the tent was brief, as he soon was seen on a cart heading to the locker room. Head Coach Dan Campbell, along with Lions staff and trainers, attended to him on the field before his departure.
Raymond’s prowess in the return game has been noteworthy, having accumulated five punt returns for 190 yards, which is just 17 yards short of the NFL record. He has recorded remarkable plays, including a 64-yard punt return, and had both a 44-yard return negated by a penalty and a 90-yard touchdown return, according to reports from Mitch Albom.
The Lions faced additional challenges during the game as left tackle Taylor Decker and running back David Montgomery also suffered injuries. Decker, who left the field shortly after Raymond, was replaced by Dan Skipper before returning to the game in the next series. Meanwhile, Montgomery was seen heading to the locker room without his jersey or shoulder pads following his injury.
This series of unfortunate events left the Lions with several key offensive players sidelined for significant portions of the game. While fans and followers are hopeful for Raymond’s swift recovery, the immediate status of Montgomery and Decker remains a concern for the team moving forward.
