Dinesh Karthik Joins Paarl Royals for SA20
Dinesh Karthik is making headlines as he becomes the first Indian cricketer to sign on with the Paarl Royals for the upcoming SA20 league, which kicks off on January 9.
At 39 years old, Karthik recently retired from all forms of competitive cricket in June this year. Since then, he has been working as a mentor and batting coach for the IPL team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Expressing his excitement, Karthik shared, «I have so many fond memories of playing in and visiting South Africa. When this opportunity came about, I couldn’t say no because of how special it would be to come back to playing competitive cricket and win this incredible competition with the Royals.»
Karthik has built an impressive career, featuring in 180 international matches for India and over 400 T20 games worldwide. His most recent stint was in IPL 2024, where he scored 326 runs in 14 matches.
Royals’ director of cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, welcomed Karthik aboard, noting his vast experience and strong impact on teams he has played for. Karthik will be joining fellow stars like David Miller and Joe Root, making for an exciting season ahead.
