Disappointment in NCP as Cabinet Ministry Offer Declined, Ajit Pawar Camp Awaits Future Expansion
The Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a part of the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, expressed disappointment as their request for a cabinet berth in the new government was not accommodated. Instead, NCP was offered a Minister of State post with independent charge, which party leader Praful Patel considered a demotion.
Declining the MoS offer, Patel mentioned that it would be a step down as he had previously served as a cabinet minister in the union government. The party decided to wait a few days for a more suitable role.
Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, clarified that BJP offered NCP a MoS Independent Charge seat, but Praful Patel’s existing minister status made it ineligible for him. Fadnavis hinted that NCP would be considered in future cabinet expansions.
In response, Ajit Pawar stated that the party was willing to be patient for a short time, emphasizing their preference for a cabinet ministry. Pawar highlighted the upcoming increase of NCP’s Rajya Sabha members and requested a cabinet seat as the party’s representation grows.
