Disney+ Reveals Expansion into Japanese Originals and Unscripted Content
Disney+ has announced a significant expansion into Japanese entertainment, unveiling a range of new original content and partnerships aimed at the Japanese market. Among the upcoming projects is ‘Traveling with Snow Man,’ a travel reality show featuring the popular Japanese pop group Snow Man. This initiative marks Disney+’s increased focus on Japanese unscripted content in collaboration with Nippon TV, according to a statement released by the company.
The travel show, slated for release in 2025, is described as an adventurous series that will follow Snow Man, a group managed by Starto Entertainment, as they embark on various travels. ‘The new show builds on the growing enthusiasm amongst Japanese audiences towards unscripted content and exemplifies the shared ambitions of Disney, Nippon TV, and Starto Entertainment to spotlight the most exciting talent from Japan to global audiences, and to cooperate in new and innovative ways,’ Disney+ stated.
In addition to its unscripted ventures, Disney+ unveiled several new anime titles poised to debut in 2025. ‘BULLET/BULLET,’ directed by Sunghoo Park of ‘Jujutsu Kaisen‘ fame, will lead the new content roster. The series is described as an exciting narrative about a team of thieves who face unexpected challenges following a job.
Another highly anticipated anime, ‘Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation,’ is based on the popular game and manga. Set in the magical and arcane Night Raven College, the series is expected to bring the enchanting storyline to life on screens in 2025.
Further enriching its anime lineup, Disney+ will introduce ‘CAT’S EYE,’ an adaptation of the original manga series that explores the dual lives of three sisters who manage a cafe by day and perform heists by night. The series will feature a new theme song by Japanese singer Ado.
The company has also announced the release of ‘Medalist,’ a sports anime centered on a figure skating coach aiming to transform his athlete into a champion, debuting in January 2025. Meanwhile, the second season of the live-action original ‘Go! Go! Loser Ranger!’ is set to release in April 2025.
