Disney has unveiled a star-studded cast for the upcoming prequel film ‘Mufasa: The Lion King,’ directed by Barry Jenkins and featuring new and familiar characters from the beloved franchise.

The film, set to hit theaters on December 20, will delve into the origins of Mufasa, the iconic king of the Pride Lands, with Lin-Manuel Miranda onboard to create the film’s music alongside Mark Mancina and Lebo M.

‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ follows Rafiki as he narrates the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa adding their comedic touch to the story.

In this prequel, audiences will witness Mufasa’s journey from an orphaned cub to a royal figure, shaped by a chance encounter with a lion named Taka, who plays a pivotal role in Mufasa’s destiny.

The film boasts a talented cast, including returning voices such as Beyoncé, Donald Glover, and John Kani, as well as newcomers like Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, and Thandiwe Newton, breathing life into beloved and new characters in the Lion King universe.
