Dodgers’ Hernández Expresses Strong Desire to Stay in Los Angeles
If there’s one thing Los Angeles Dodgers fans have learned about Teoscar Hernández this season, it is that he remains grounded and committed to the team. On Monday, Hernández publicly expressed his gratitude to fans for an unforgettable 2024 season. While discussions for a long-term contract extension didn’t materialize during the season, the Dodgers have extended a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer to him. The team has signaled its intention to pursue further negotiations for his return.
«I’m going to do everything in my power to come back,» Hernández stated during the Dodgers’ World Series parade, highlighting his intention to remain in Los Angeles. The Dodgers’ General Manager, Brandon Gomes, confirmed that securing Hernández remains a priority, particularly as Mookie Betts will transition back to the infield in 2025. «We’ll have conversations with Teo and his group ASAP,» Gomes remarked, noting the urgency to finalize an agreement.
Last offseason, Hernández, seeking a multiyear deal, found limited options after the Seattle Mariners declined to offer him a qualifying offer. He ultimately signed a one-year, $23.5 million contract with the Dodgers, which included $8.5 million in deferred payments. This decision proved to be a strategic gamble that yielded significant rewards.
At 32, Hernández produced one of the best seasons of his career, achieving a personal best of 33 home runs while playing both corner outfield positions. His exceptional performance earned him his second All-Star selection and a victory in the Home Run Derby, contributing significantly to the Dodgers’ World Series victory.
Reflecting on the season, Hernández shared his thoughts, stating, «What a year. I want to take a moment to thank all the fans for their incredible support throughout this season. You are the driving force that pushes us to give our best in every game, and your energy and passion are felt in every corner of the stadium.»
