Dodgers Make Big Moves at Trade Deadline
The Los Angeles Dodgers have finally made some noise as the MLB trade deadline approached. After a period of relative quiet, they executed a big three-team trade that brought in two players they have been eyeing for some time.
In this deal, the Dodgers traded away some of their prospects to the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals to acquire utility player Tommy Edman and right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech. The full breakdown of the trade involves the Cardinals receiving right-hander Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham, while the White Sox got infielder Miguel Vargas and prospects Jeral Perez and Alexander Albertus from the Dodgers.
Edman, a Gold Glove winner from 2021, has been recovering from ankle surgery and is set to return soon. He stated, “I’m feeling good,” indicating that he has made significant progress in his rehabilitation.
His return will be crucial for the Dodgers, particularly as both Mookie Betts and Miguel Rojas are currently dealing with injuries. Edman’s versatility means he can cover different infield and outfield positions, which will help the Dodgers navigate the remainder of the season more strategically.
Meanwhile, Kopech has recently transitioned from starting to relieving and has been making waves with his impressive strikeout numbers. In 43 appearances this season, he has posted a 4.74 ERA but has struck out 59 batters, showcasing his potential as a strong bullpen asset.
As the Dodgers look forward, they are now shifting their attention to finding additional starting pitching help, with names like Garrett Crochet from the White Sox and Tarik Skubal from the Tigers floating around as potential targets. However, the Dodgers will need to weigh the cost and availability of these pitchers as the clock ticks down on the trade deadline.
