Former EastEnders star Don Gilet is set to charm viewers once again, this time as the newly announced lead detective in the beloved BBC series, Death in Paradise. Known for his portrayal of the villainous character Lucas Johnson in EastEnders, Gilet will now grace our screens as Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson on the picturesque island of Saint Marie.

With an impressive television history including roles in Holby City, Silent Witness, Doctor Who, Shetland, and The Stranger, Gilet expressed his excitement at the new opportunity, likening it to a precious jewel placed in his hands.

The upcoming Christmas special will mark Gilet’s debut in the series, where he will bring a fresh perspective to the role as DI Wilson, whose arrival from London to Saint Marie is met with mixed feelings about his new surroundings.

Following the departure of DI Neville Parker, portrayed by Ralf Little, Gilet becomes the fifth lead detective to helm the show, following in the footsteps of Ben Miller, Kris Marshall, and Ardal O’Hanlon.

Produced by Red Planet Pictures, Death in Paradise has captivated audiences worldwide, with BBC Studios licensing the show to over 230 territories. Building on the success of its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, the franchise is set to expand with the upcoming series, Return to Paradise, this time set in Australia.

As Gilet dons his detective hat in Guadeloupe, where filming has commenced, fans eagerly anticipate the 14th season of this long-standing detective drama that promises engaging mysteries amidst breathtaking views and tropical allure.
