World No4 DANIIL MEDVEDEV faced unexpected drama during his Wimbledon match against Alexandre Muller, as he mistakenly thought he had lost the first set and berated his coaching team on Centre Court.
Despite being ranked 97 places above his opponent in the ATP rankings, Medvedev struggled initially as Muller put up a spirited performance, leading to a tense tiebreak in the first set.
During the tiebreak at 3-3, both players induced laughter from the crowd with their grunts, adding to the intensity of the match.
At 5-3 in the tiebreak, Medvedev, in a bizarre turn of events, lost track of the score, leading him to angrily address his coaching team, thinking he had lost the set.
He even sat down in his chair, gesturing at French coaches Gilles Cervara and Gilles Simon, only to realize his mistake and continue playing at 6-3.
However, Muller clinched the first set 7-6 in the tiebreak, stunning the crowd and setting the stage for a thrilling contest.
After his previous win over Aleksandar Kovacevic on No1 Court, Medvedev expressed his preference for playing on Wimbledon’s second-biggest arena, noting his success on that court.
Reflecting on his performance, Medvedev stated, "It was a great match…I never lost on No1 Court so hopefully I can play a lot more matches on this court."
Despite his initial mistake, Medvedev managed to secure a comeback victory over Muller, winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 7-5 in an impressive display of resilience and skill at SW19.
