Driver Arrested with Drug Residu on Face
A man was arrested after being spotted driving with white powder on his face.
William Wallace, aged 42, was pulled over by police on July 1, 2023, on Easterhouse Road. Officers noticed he appeared very intoxicated.
When police approached him, they observed that his eyes were glazed, his pupils dilated, and his speech was slow. Along with the white powder on his face, there was also a strong smell of cannabis.
Following his arrest, Wallace was taken to Coatbridge police station where he provided a blood sample for testing. He was found unfit to drive.
He later appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. He also admitted he had possession of two class C drugs, Pregabalin and Bromazolam.
His lawyer explained that Wallace struggles with addiction and mental health issues. At the time of the incident, he was around negative influences and felt low self-esteem.
Wallace’s lawyer mentioned that he has since distanced himself from those negative influences and has reached out to addiction services for help, showing signs of progress.
However, Sheriff Collette Gallagher noted the severe nature of the offense, pointing out his lengthy criminal record and reckless behavior.
In the end, Wallace was sentenced to two years of supervision and required to engage with addiction services. He was also placed under a tag for 144 days, meaning he had to stay home from 7 PM to 7 AM, and banned from driving for three years.
