Ebonyi State Plans to Acquire Commercial Airplanes
The Ebonyi State Government has announced exciting plans to acquire commercial airplanes. This initiative is all part of a strategy to boost the growth and improve the operational efficiency of the state-owned Chuba Okadigbo International Airport.
In a recent statement, Leo Ekene Oketa, a Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, revealed that Governor Francis Nwifuru and the Executive Council have given the green light for the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Elechi Elechi Nnannia, to start talks with contractors interested in supplying the aircraft.
This move appears to align with the state’s ambition to launch its own airline, inspired by the success of Akwa Ibom‘s Ibom Air. The Governor’s office emphasized that this is a step towards exploring more opportunities for the airport’s growth.
Furthermore, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Aviation, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, announced that the upgrade of the runway at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport has been completed. She mentioned that a few minor clearances from the relevant agencies are still pending, but everything is expected to wrap up soon.
Earlier this year, the Ebonyi State Government unveiled plans to kick-start a state-owned airline with four aircraft, backed by additional contributions from willing investors who can provide three more planes.
These developments mark a significant move for Ebonyi State as it strives to improve its aviation capabilities, preparing both for passenger flights and cargo operations at its internationally recognized airport.
