The NHL trade period kicked off with a significant move as the Edmonton Oilers and the Ottawa Senators engaged in a player swap deal. The Oilers traded forwards Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson to the Senators in exchange for forward Roby Jarventie and a fourth-round pick in 2025.

Xavier Bourgault, a promising talent, was the 22nd overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. The 21-year-old forward showcased his skills with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, putting up solid numbers throughout his career in the league.

Jake Chiasson, another young talent drafted by the Oilers in 2021, brings his potential to the Senators in this deal. The British Columbia native had a solid first pro season, splitting his time between the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL and making his AHL debut with the Bakersfield Condors.

On the Ottawa Senators’ side of the trade, Roby Jarventie, a forward with promise, joins the Edmonton Oilers along with the 2025 fourth-round pick. The 21-year-old Finnish player, drafted in the second round in 2020, had his AHL stint with the Belleville Senators, making notable contributions to the team.

This trade marks a strategic move for both the Edmonton Oilers and the Ottawa Senators as they look to bolster their respective line-ups and build for the future. With young talent changing hands, the ripple effects of this deal are sure to be felt in the NHL landscape as the teams prepare for the upcoming seasons.
