Amidst the buzz and excitement of the 2024 general elections in Limpopo, EFF leader Julius Malema, accompanied by his wife Mantoa Matlala, made a notable appearance at the Mponegele Lower Primary School in Seshego.
Waiting in line alongside his party’s Godrich Gardee, the EFF leader engaged with the crowd, sparking enthusiasm and eagerness among voters eager to snap pictures and exchange greetings with the red berets’ leader.
Malema shared insights on the significance of the ongoing elections, addressing topics ranging from the country’s future direction to the recent violence in Juju Valley, along with praising the IEC‘s efficiency in conducting the elections.
While acknowledging minor glitches in the system, Malema expressed confidence in the fairness of the polls and urged against baseless doubts on the IEC’s integrity.
Distinctively adorned in a T-shirt honoring Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and a Palestinian scarf, Malema emphasized the need for a peaceful election process, distancing the EFF from the recent unrest in Juju Valley.
At Mponegele Primary School in Seshego, EFF and ANC supporters peacefully coexisted, despite prior tensions in the area. Voters, particularly from the EFF stronghold in Juju Valley, queued patiently to cast their ballots in a symbol of democratic participation.
Residents showcased their loyalty to the EFF, citing the party’s provision of essential services and land allocations as reasons for their unwavering support. They emphasized the need for further developments, including electricity, healthcare facilities, and improved education infrastructure.
The recent clash between EFF and ANC members in Juju Valley, resulting in injuries, still lingered as a reminder of the political tensions in the region. Despite the incident, both parties maintained a presence near the voting station without incident.
Speaking to the media, Malema underscored the importance of political tolerance, denouncing provocative actions that lead to violence. He called for a return to peaceful coexistence and urged against unnecessary confrontations that overshadow the democratic process.
