Eid-ul-Adha Celebrations Unite Muslim Communities Across the Globe
Eid-ul-Adha, known as Bakrid in some regions, is a significant religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide. The occasion commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to God, where he was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience.
This year, Eid-ul-Adha falls on June 16th and 17th, 2024, corresponding to the 10th day of Dhu-al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. Countries such as India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, and the Sultanate of Brunei will observe the festival on June 17th.
During Eid-ul-Adha, families and friends come together to partake in festive meals, typically featuring dishes like mutton biryani and kheer. The symbolism of sacrifice and devotion is central to the celebrations, as it reflects Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to God’s will.
Many communities engage in charitable activities during this period, distributing meat from sacrificed animals to those in need. This practice emphasizes the spirit of giving and sharing, a core aspect of the Eid-ul-Adha traditions.
As Muslims mark this holy festival, mosques and prayer grounds witness large congregations for special prayers and sermons. The atmosphere is filled with joy, prayers, and fellowship, as individuals express gratitude for the blessings in their lives.
