Elle Macpherson Reveals Battle with Breast Cancer and Holistic Treatment Choices
Elle Macpherson, the renowned Australian supermodel, has disclosed her diagnosis of breast cancer, which occurred seven years ago. In a recent interview with Australian Women’s Weekly, Macpherson shared her experience and the subsequent decisions she made regarding her treatment.
Macpherson, now 60, described the moment of her diagnosis as shocking and confusing. After undergoing a lumpectomy, her doctor recommended a series of conventional treatments that included a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, and breast reconstruction.
In her statement to Women’s Weekly, she expressed that the diagnosis was daunting and prompted her to reflect deeply on what approach would work best for her. Ultimately, Macpherson decided to pursue a holistic approach to her treatment, steering away from conventional methods that she deemed too extreme.
According to the magazine, she opted for what she calls an “intuitive, heart-led, holistic approach,” integrating various therapies and lifestyle changes to treat her condition. Macpherson emphasizes that this decision was not made lightly, as she faced pressure from the medical community and her family.
In her forthcoming book titled, “Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself,” she elaborates on her journey and the emotional and physical factors she addressed alongside her breast cancer. Macpherson acknowledges that while her choice may not resonate with everyone, it was essential for her own truth and belief system.
Regarding her current health status, she stated she is in what she refers to as “utter wellness,” despite traditional medical definitions indicating she is in clinical remission. She believes that her state of health encompasses emotional, spiritual, and mental wellbeing, in addition to physical measurements.
