England Cricketer Brydon Carse Suspended for Three Months Due to Betting Violations
England paceman Brydon Carse has been issued a three-month ban from all cricket activities for violating betting regulations, as revealed today.
The 28-year-old fast bowler, who was part of England’s 50-over World Cup squad in recent months, faced a 16-month suspension, with 13 months being deferred, following an inquiry by the Cricket Regulator in English cricket.
Carse, who accepted the charges, admitted to placing 303 bets on cricket matches between 2017 and 2019, although none of these wagers were on games he was participating in.
Having contravened the integrity rules, Carse, who holds a central contract with Durham, is now prohibited from engaging in any cricket-related activities until August 28.
According to the regulations, no professional cricketer, coach, or support staff is allowed to bet on cricket matches worldwide.
The South Africa-born Carse, who has featured in 17 white-ball international matches for England, expressed his accountability in a statement on Durham’s official website.
He acknowledged the error of his actions and thanked the ECB, Durham Cricket, and the PCA for their support during this challenging phase.
Carse stressed his commitment to working hard over the next three months to repay the faith placed in him by returning to a high level of play upon completion of his suspension.
The ECB spokesperson underscored the gravity of the matter, stating a zero-tolerance policy towards anti-corruption breaches in cricket and expressing hope that Carse’s case would serve as a cautionary tale to other cricketers.
The ban effectively rules Carse out of contention for a Test debut this season, with England’s final Test match slated against Sri Lanka at Lord’s starting on September 6, shortly after the conclusion of Carse’s suspension period.
