Erdogan Hints at Possible Intervention in Israel Over Palestine Conflict
Ankara — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made waves with his recent comments, suggesting that Turkey might consider intervening in Israel, similar to past actions in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh.
While addressing the audience from his hometown of Rize, Erdogan criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza against Hamas. He emphasized the need for Turkey to be strong enough to prevent what he called ‘ridiculous things’ happening to Palestine.
During his speech, Erdogan stated, ‘Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we might do similar to them.’ However, he didn’t provide any specific details on what kind of intervention he was alluding to.
The President’s remarks come after a series of tensions between Turkey and Israel, especially with Erdogan suspending trade and recalling Turkey’s ambassador following the recent escalation in Gaza.
Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, reacted to Erdogan’s comments on social media, comparing him to Saddam Hussein and cautioning him to remember the outcomes that followed such threats.
Turkey has previously sent military personnel to Libya, backing the recognized government there, while also supporting Azerbaijan in the conflict against Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh.
As Erdogan escalates his rhetoric, Turkey’s financial markets could face increasing volatility in the coming days as reactions to his statements unfold.
