Erie Times News Millcreek Store Construction

The Erie Times-News is preparing to undertake a significant redevelopment project at the intersection of Asbury and West Ridge roads in Millcreek Township. Plans are in place to demolish the existing store and replace it with a larger facility. This initiative has been detailed in a land development plan presented to the Millcreek Township Planning Commission, which has recommended approval of the project.

The Township Supervisors are scheduled to review and decide on the plan during their meeting on November 26. If approved, the current 4,650-square-foot store will see an upgrade to a 6,139-square-foot space. The intention is for the new store to be operational by the fall of next year, as indicated in the presentation to the Planning Commission on November 12.

Key features of the new store will include a drive-through lane and a reduction from 18 to 10 fuel pumps. «Essentially it’s going to be a brand new store with all new parking, underground storage tanks, and landscaping. Everything will be brand new,» stated Greg Geishauser from Stiffler McGraw, the engineering, surveying, and architectural firm based in Hollidaysburg responsible for the project.

Although detailed inquiries were made by the Erie Times-News about the new store, Sheetz, the company behind the store, did not provide any response. It is noted that other similar projects by Sheetz are incorporating expanded indoor and outdoor dining spaces.

The Millcreek store holds the distinction of being Sheetz’s first location in Erie County. The Altoona-based chain initiated construction for this site, along with a connected small strip plaza, in 2000, with the store opening its doors to the public in the spring of 2001. The company’s presence in the area also includes stores in Erie, Summit Township, Girard, and Washington Township, while a location on Buffalo Road in Harborcreek was closed in 2019.
