76ers’ George to Miss Two Games due to Knee Injury
The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Thursday that their star player will be sidelined for at least two upcoming games owing to a bone bruise in his left knee. A recent MRI confirmed there is no structural damage; however, George will need to miss the Friday match and the subsequent Sunday game, during which a reevaluation is scheduled for Monday, as per a team statement.
The injury occurred during Wednesday night’s game, where the 76ers faced a 117-111 defeat on the road. George injured the same knee he had hyperextended in the preseason, which had already caused him to miss the season’s first five games.
This development poses a fresh challenge for the Sixers, especially as they recently managed to field George, Tyrese Maxey, and another key player together for the first time in Memphis. Maxey’s return follows a six-game absence due to a hamstring injury.
George’s contribution was limited before his exit, recording only two points on 1-of-6 shooting, alongside four rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes of play. Similarly, Maxey had a difficult night, shooting 3-of-13 for eight points.
«Listen, it’s certainly not easy,» Sixers coach Nick Nurse commented post-game against the Grizzlies. «Tyrese just getting back and didn’t really have a feel tonight, and Paul going out. Certainly not easy … but we didn’t put enough together again for 48.»
