No Evacuation Order for Americans in Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions
A recent Facebook post claiming that the United States has ordered all citizens to evacuate Lebanon is circulating online. However, as of July 29, the State Department has confirmed that there is no evacuation order in place for Americans in the country.
The post appeared as Lebanon faced heightened tensions following a rocket strike that tragically killed several children and teenagers in the Israel-controlled Golan Heights on July 27. Although American and Israeli intelligence linked the incident to Hezbollah, the militant group has denied involvement.
The State Department has issued a Level 3 travel advisory for Lebanon, advising Americans to reconsider their travel plans. This advisory highlights concerns over crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and the risk of armed conflict.
In their latest communications, a department spokesperson stated, «We don’t have any plans for or an announcement as it relates to an evacuation or efforts for private U.S. citizens from Lebanon.» The U.S. embassy in Beirut has reported some airlines adjusting their schedules due to the increase in regional tensions.
Citizens currently in Lebanon have been encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program and consider their commercial flight options for leaving the country. Additionally, reports indicate that the Pentagon has been moving military assets closer to Israel and Lebanon to quickly address any potential evacuation needs.
USA TODAY has previously debunked claims regarding the Department of Defense instructing Americans to leave Lebanon immediately.
