On Friday, July 26, 2024, the long-awaited opening ceremony for the Paris Summer Olympics will finally take place, marking a historic moment for the City of Light. This will be the third time Paris has hosted the Summer Games, with the last time being in 1924.

The organizers are promising a spectacular event, with the Parade of Nations being an unprecedented experience. Instead of the usual stadium setting, athletes will arrive via boats on the Seine River, showcasing some of Paris’s most iconic landmarks like Notre-Dame and the Louvre as they make their way to the Trocadéro, just near the Eiffel Tower.

Due to security reasons, only around 300,000 spectators will be allowed along the riverbanks to enjoy the festivities, which are expected to last nearly four hours. To enhance the viewing experience, there will be 80 giant screens set up along the waterfront.

The river parade is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. local time, coinciding with sunset at 9:37 p.m. This showcases the beauty of the natural light reflecting off the water as athletes are honored during this event.

For viewers back in the United States, the live event will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET, or 10:30 a.m. PT. NBC will also air a 90-minute preview starting at noon ET, providing fans with insights and excitement as the Games unfold.

If you’re looking to catch all the action, NBC and Peacock will stream the ceremony live. Mike Tirico will host the coverage, joined by special guests Kelly Clarkson and Peyton Manning. Commentary will be provided by Maria Taylor from the Team USA boat, with Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb on a bridge near the festivities.

The ceremony will begin with speeches from notable figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron and IOC President Thomas Bach, setting the stage for an incredible showcase of athletic talent. The parade will feature 94 boats, each equipped with cameras for viewers to get up close and personal with the athletes as they enter the scene.

Closing the ceremony will be the traditional raising of the Olympic flag and lighting of the Olympic flame, illuminating the celebrations and highlighting the rich culture of France. The event is expected to draw a global audience, with millions tuning in to witness this historic moment.

Security measures are also a high priority, especially with the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Authorities are taking precautions by deploying special intervention forces, snipers on rooftops, and even anti-drone systems to ensure a safe environment for attendees.

The excitement continues to build as the 2024 Paris Olympics aims to welcome over 12 million visitors during this grand event, setting the stage for unforgettable moments in sports history.
