Falcons Sign Justin Simmons to Boost Defense
The Atlanta Falcons have made a splash in the NFL by signing veteran safety Justin Simmons to a one-year, $8 million deal. This move comes after a lengthy free agency period for Simmons, who was looking for a new team after being released by the Denver Broncos earlier this year.
Known for his impressive track record, Simmons has made 30 interceptions since 2016, the highest in the league during that stretch. He’ s only the second player to achieve at least two interceptions every year from 2016 to 2023, showcasing his consistency and ability to create turnovers.
In addition to his remarkable stats, Simmons has nabbed four second-team All-Pro honors over his career. While his last season with the Broncos saw them struggle defensively, his presence on the field proved invaluable, especially when the team had rough outings without him.
Joining forces with the talented Jessie Bates, the Falcons now have one of the best safety duos in the NFL. Bates is also known for his playmaking capabilities, and together they bring a wealth of experience and skill to the Falcons’ defensive lineup.
This signing is particularly timely for Atlanta, as fellow safety DeMarcco Hellams suffered a significant injury recently. Simmons will likely help bolster the safety position, making things more stable for the defensive backfield.
As the Falcons prepare for the upcoming season, the addition of Simmons, alongside the trade for Matthew Judon, has fans excited for a stronger defense. The team looks poised to tackle their opponents with renewed confidence and expertise in their defensive backfield.
