Fallen Tree Causes Traffic Congestion in Cape Town After Heavy Rain and Strong Winds
A traffic disruption occurred in Cape Town when a tree fell onto Rhodes Drive, impacting the M3 route. The incident led to significant traffic delays in the city, following hours of heavy rainfall and strong winds sweeping through the area. The fallen tree obstructed both lanes of the road, prompting traffic officers from the City of Cape Town to caution motorists traveling along Rhodes Drive to exercise vigilance.
Motorists were redirected towards alternate routes, namely Orchards and Fernwood roads, to join the M3 and circumvent the traffic blockage caused by the fallen tree. Traffic officers on the scene were actively diverting vehicles to manage the congestion and ensure the safety of commuters.
The Recreation and Parks Department swiftly responded to the situation, dispatching personnel to the site to clear the fallen tree obstructing the road. The ongoing inclement weather conditions in Cape Town have posed challenges for both motorists and authorities, requiring coordinated efforts to address the traffic disruptions.
Concurrently, Eskom reported electricity supply interruptions in parts of Worcester and Eersterivier, directly attributed to the adverse weather conditions. Eskom’s technical response teams were mobilized to conduct assessments and repairs to the damaged infrastructure, with a focus on minimizing the impact on the local communities.
Eskom indicated that voting stations were being closely monitored to address any faults impacting the electoral proceedings, with restoration efforts contingent on the weather conditions. The collaborative response from the City of Cape Town and Eskom underscored the importance of swift action and coordination in mitigating the effects of the inclement weather on critical infrastructure.
