The excitement was electric at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday evening as Marvel Studios finally revealed the title of its upcoming movie, the Fantastic Four. Fans gathered to hear the big news, and they weren’t disappointed when it was announced that the film would be called Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Director Matt Shakman, known for his work on WandaVision, introduced a concept reel that showcased the film’s retro-future aesthetic inspired by the 1960s. Shakman emphasized the optimism of that era, drawing inspiration from designer Syd Mead as he hinted at the film’s unique visual style.

The fun didn’t stop there! A playful video was shown, featuring Mr. Fantastic teaching a class, the fantastic team’s jet-like Fantasticar, and even the Thing appearing as a mystery contestant on a dating show! And for all you comic book fans, the villain of this story, Galactus, was also teased in the footage.

In addition to the title, it was revealed that the talented Michael Giacchino, who won an Oscar for his score for Up, would be composing the music for the film. With production set to start soon, the energy in Hall H was buzzing with anticipation.

The star-studded cast includes familiar names such as Reed Richards, played by actor (undisclosed), Susan Storm, played by (undisclosed), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Also joining the roster are Julia Garner as Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson playing Galactus, with more surprises in store with actors like Paul Walter Hauser and Natasha Lyonne in undisclosed roles.

The Fantastic Four has had a bit of a rocky road in terms of film adaptations over the years. The first attempt back in 1994 was famously scrapped. However, the franchise had a commercial run with films during the mid-2000s starring Chris Evans and Jessica Alba, which didn’t fare too well with critics. And let’s not forget the widely panned reboot in 2015 that didn’t perform as hoped.

Marvel fans are buzzing with excitement as they look forward to the return of these beloved characters, with the new Fantastic Four set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
