Fatal Accident at University of Ilorin Claims One Life, Injures Nine

An unfortunate lone accident at the University of Ilorin campus has resulted in one fatality and injuries to nine individuals. The incident involved a ten-seater commercial bus that was transporting passengers from the campus to the town after the day’s activities.

The Director of Corporate Affairs at the University of Ilorin, Kunle Akogun, confirmed the occurrence of the tragic accident. While the identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed, the victims were either students or staff members of the institution.

Following the accident, the University Management swiftly initiated rescue operations. All injured individuals were promptly transferred to the University Health Centre for medical attention by a team of healthcare professionals.

Of the ten passengers involved, one lost their life in the accident, while five sustained severe injuries. One critically injured individual was stabilized at the University Health Centre and then referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

The remaining four passengers with minor injuries were treated at the University Health Centre and subsequently discharged. Currently, five victims, including two males, two females, and the bus driver, are still receiving medical care at the University Health Centre.

Tragically, one victim was pronounced dead upon arrival and has since been transferred to the morgue. Efforts are underway to inform the deceased’s next of kin. The University Management expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extended condolences to the victim’s family, and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured individuals.
