Fatal Car Crash at White House Gate Investigated as Traffic Incident
A driver tragically died on Saturday night after crashing a vehicle into a gate at the White House. The incident, which occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m., is being treated as only a traffic crash by authorities. The U.S. Secret Service found the male driver lifeless in the vehicle at an outer perimeter gate of the White House complex.
The Washington Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the vehicle collided with a security barrier at the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. Despite security protocols being activated, there was no immediate threat to the White House, according to the Secret Service.
Officials stated that the driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Secret Service is set to continue the investigation, with the fatal crash portion being turned over to the metro police for further examination by the Major Crash Investigations Unit.
During the time of the incident, President Biden was not present in Washington, D.C., as he had embarked on a visit to Delaware. The Secret Service assured that there were no safety concerns or threats following the tragedy at the White House.
