Five-Star Quarterback Lewis Commits to Colorado, Boosting Buffs’ 2025 Recruiting Class
The University of Colorado football program has made a significant stride in its recruitment efforts by securing the commitment of five-star quarterback prospect, Lewis. As reported by ESPN, Lewis, who ranks as the No. 2 recruit in the 2025 ESPN 300, announced his decision to join the Buffaloes on «The Pat McAfee Show» on Thursday. This announcement follows his recent decommitment from the University of Southern California (USC).
Lewis expressed enthusiasm about joining Colorado, highlighting the role of Head Coach Deion Sanders and Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur in his decision. «I’m excited for the opportunity to get to work and compete,» Lewis told ESPN. He noted that Colorado’s recruitment of him began after he reclassified, making the timing ideal for both parties. «I trust Coach Prime and [offensive coordinator Pat] Shurmur to help me become the player that I want to be,» Lewis added.
The commitment marks a critical recruiting victory for Deion Sanders, who is in his second season as Colorado’s head football coach. The Buffaloes had been eyed as a leading contender for Lewis’ talent, especially after his visit during their victory over Cincinnati on October 26. Other programs, including Georgia and Indiana, showed interest in Lewis, with the former hosting him for an unofficial visit in November.
With the departure of current Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, also Deion Sanders’ son, to the NFL anticipated after this season, Lewis is expected to have a direct path to securing playing time upon his arrival. «Lewis’ pledge could be just the first domino in a late-cycle recruiting surge,» an insider noted, suggesting that Colorado could attract more elite prospects to its ranks.
Originally part of the Class of 2026, Lewis had committed to USC on August 22, 2023. However, after reclassifying into the 2025 cycle, he opted to explore other opportunities, eventually leading to his commitment to Colorado. In an interesting turn of events following Lewis’ decommitment, USC solidified a commitment from another promising quarterback, classified as ESPN’s No. 4 pocket passer for the 2025 class.
With a successful 8-2 record and sitting atop the Big 12 standings, Colorado, under Sanders’ leadership, has also climbed to No. 16 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. The Buffaloes are eyeing a potential appearance in the Big 12 championship game and hope to carry their current momentum into their future recruiting endeavors.
