Florida Gators Secure Commitment from Defensive Lineman Stephon Shivers
The Florida Gators have acquired their 14th commitment for the Class of 2025, with defensive lineman Stephon Shivers pledging his allegiance to the team following an official visit to Gainesville. Shivers, who is known for his impressive stature at 6-foot-4 and weighing 365 pounds, hails from Brentwood Academy in Tennessee.
Shivers announced his decision via social media, stating, «Gator Nation, it’s our time.» This commitment marks a significant turn in his recruitment journey, as Shivers recently withdrew his previous commitment to the University of Georgia, where he had been pledged for eight months.
Defensive line coach Gerald Chatman has been instrumental in securing Shivers’ commitment. «We’ve been recruiting Shivers intensively for over a year,» Chatman explained, «He brings great potential to both our defensive line and to the team as a whole.» This ongoing recruitment has intensified in recent months, particularly after Shivers’ announcement of decommitment from Georgia.
In addition to his prowess on the football field, Shivers is a two-sport athlete, excelling in basketball where he has scored over a thousand points. His versatility and athleticism are expected to make significant contributions to the Gators’ defensive front, where he joins fellow defensive linemen Jeramiah McCloud and Jalen Wiggins.
With the Early Signing Period approaching, the Gators are strategically stacking their roster. Shivers’ commitment was among a half-dozen prospects visiting the Gators’ campus over the weekend. «This visit was pivotal,» remarked Shivers, «It reinforced my decision and placed Florida at the top of my list.»
