Football Players Show Support for Gaza and the DRC on Social Media
Several professional football players, including Ousmane Dembélé from PSG, Dayot Upamecano from Bayern Munich, Marcus Thuram from Inter Milan, Youssouf Fofana from AS Monaco, and Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool, have shown their support for Gaza and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on social media.
In a recent Instagram story post, these players shared a message of solidarity with the people of Gaza, specifically mentioning Rafah with the slogan «All Eyes on Rafah.» This gesture quickly gained traction on various social media platforms and was widely shared by their fellow footballers.
Rafah, a Palestinian city in the southern region of the Gaza Strip, was recently targeted by an attack that resulted in the reported deaths of 45 individuals according to the Gaza health ministry. Subsequently, another strike in a humanitarian area west of Rafah claimed the lives of 21 people, as reported by a Palestinian civil defense official. The Israeli military denies responsibility for this incident.
Additionally, Jules Koundé of FC Barcelone did not share the same Instagram story as his French national team colleagues but expressed his condemnation of the «barbaric Israeli forces» in a separate post on his Instagram story.
It is worth noting that Dayot Upamecano, Ousmane Dembélé, and Ibrahima Konaté also extended their support to the DRC with another story post titled «All Eyes on Kongo.» This gesture aimed to raise awareness of the ongoing conflict in the eastern region of the DRC, where various armed groups, including the M23 rebels, have been vying for control of the territory and its resources for more than 25 years.
