Former Alberta Premier Alison Redford, Ex-MP Rob Merrifield, and Brittany Baltimore were among the notable government appointments announced recently in Alberta.

Redford, who previously served as the premier of the province, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Invest Alberta Corporation, a Crown corporation focused on attracting investments to the region.

Redford, known for her leadership in the Progressive Conservative Party, faced controversy during her time as premier but brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

Rob Merrifield, a former Conservative MP and Alberta’s envoy to the United States, was appointed as a public member of the council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Merrifield’s history in politics and public service adds depth to the council.

Brittany Baltimore, the former executive director of the United Conservative Party caucus, has been named to the board of governors of MacEwan University. Baltimore’s background in both public and private sectors will be a valuable asset to the university board.

These appointments have sparked discussions, with opposition figures like Irfan Sabir criticizing what they call ‘Toryland cronyism’ in the government’s selection process.

The government, on the other hand, defends the appointments, citing the experience and qualifications of the individuals chosen for these key positions in Alberta’s governance.
