Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Sushil Modi, aged 72, passed away at Delhi‘s All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. He had been battling cancer and was receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit for a month prior to his demise.
Sushil Modi, a prominent BJP leader, had announced his withdrawal from the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in April due to his health condition. His absence left a significant void in Bihar’s political landscape where he held influential positions over three decades.
Between 2005 and 2020, Sushil Modi served as Deputy to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in two terms, playing a crucial role in the state’s governance and development.
Senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Ravi Shankar Prasad, expressed deep sorrow over Sushil Modi’s passing, highlighting his dedication to public service and the party’s growth.
The news of his demise also drew condolences from political adversaries like Tejashwi Yadav and Mamata Banerjee, showcasing the respect he commanded across party lines.
