Former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa Faces Arrest Warrant in POCSO Case
The First Fast Track Court (POCSO court) in Karnataka has issued an arrest warrant against former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa in connection with a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Yediyurappa, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stands accused of a serious offense involving a minor who sought his assistance along with her mother in February.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been tasked with the investigation of the case and has now taken steps to apprehend the veteran politician.
Amidst his official roles as a member of the BJP Parliamentary Board and the Central Election Committee, Yediyurappa finds himself entangled in a legal battle.
According to reports, Yediyurappa is currently out of the state capital and is believed to be in New Delhi as per his office’s travel schedule.
Following legal proceedings instigated by the aggrieved party through a petition in the High Court of Karnataka questioning the delay in Yediyurappa’s arrest, the CID summoned him for interrogation on June 12.
Yediyurappa, in response, cited his presence in New Delhi and expressed willingness to cooperate with authorities, setting the date for his appearance as June 17.
Subsequently, the CID sought the issuance of an arrest warrant against the former Chief Minister from the Fast Track Court 1 in Bengaluru.
On the evening of June 13, the court duly sanctioned a non-bailable arrest warrant against B.S. Yediyurappa.
