Former MTN Group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa has passed away at the age of 57, as confirmed by his family on Sunday. Dabengwa succumbs to cancer, leaving behind a legacy as a prominent figure in the telecommunications industry.

Dabengwa served as the CEO of MTN Group from March 2011 until November 2015. His leadership was characterized by integrity and a visionary approach, which significantly advanced the company during his tenure.

Before his time at MTN, Dabengwa was the managing director of MTN South Africa and held positions as COO and CEO of MTN Nigeria. His career in the telecommunications sector began after serving as an executive director at Eskom.

His family released a statement highlighting Dabengwa’s dedication to education and the transformative power of technology. They expressed deep sorrow and requested privacy during this difficult time.

Memorial arrangements and further details about a funeral service will be announced in due course. Dabengwa is survived by his wife and four children, who remember him as a titan in his field.
