BOSTON – A former NFL offensive lineman, Gosder Cherilus, is in hot water after an incident on a Delta flight. The 40-year-old, who used to play for the Detroit Lions, was arrested for allegedly urinating on another passenger while flying from Boston to Dublin.

The flight, Delta 154, had to turn back to Logan Airport early Sunday morning because of Cherilus’s disruptive behavior. According to Massachusetts State Police, they received a call around 2 a.m. when the flight was diverted due to an unruly passenger.

Late reports describe how things escalated. It seems that Cherilus was already in a bad mood before the flight took off, arguing about seating arrangements with another passenger. About an hour into the flight, he reportedly approached an elderly woman, exposed himself, and then urinated on her for about 20 seconds.

The flight crew and other passengers were understandably shocked and scared. Attempts to calm Cherilus down were unsuccessful, and he allegedly became aggressive.

When the plane landed, Troopers were called in, but Cherilus was not cooperative. Due to his size, which is about 6 feet 6 inches tall and around 280 pounds, authorities had to use two sets of handcuffs to restrain him.

This incident has caught the attention of federal authorities, as it took place over Canadian waters. Cherilus has pleaded not guilty to several charges, including disorderly conduct and interfering with the operation of an aircraft.

After his arraignment, Cherilus did not comment but did release a statement claiming that he had taken sleeping medication he wasn’t used to, which led to his unusual behavior. He apologized to everyone on board the flight.

As expected, Delta Air Lines reiterated their zero tolerance policy for misconduct and are cooperating with law enforcement regarding the situation. Passengers aboard the flight were later transferred to another flight to Dublin.
