After a successful 11-season career in the NFL, former Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas finds a new calling as the offensive line coach for the Munich Ravens in Germany‘s European League of Football (ELF).
Transitioning from the intensity of the NFL to coaching in Munich, Thomas navigates a unique balance between his passion for football and his commitment to family, as emphasized by his wife Annie.
Introduced to the football scene in Germany during the NFL’s games in London and Mexico City, Thomas got a taste of the growing passion for American football in the country.
The ELF, established in 2021, provides a platform for European players to compete professionally, with Thomas spearheading the offensive line coaching for the Munich Ravens.
Coaching in a more relaxed European environment, Thomas appreciates the balance between family time and honing his coaching skills, a contrast to the intense schedules of coaching in the US.
Working alongside talented athletes like Marlon Werthmann, who had NFL workout opportunities, Thomas aims to develop the players’ full potential and possibly create a pipeline for NFL prospects from the ELF.
Although focused on the current season in Munich, Thomas looks forward to the potential impact of the ELF in bridging international football talent with the NFL and expanding the sport’s global reach.
