Former Police Officer Accused of Homicide Dead After Interstate Chase

A former police officer, Elias Huizar, who was the subject of an Amber Alert involving his 1-year-old son Roman Huizar, has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police chase on Interstate 5. The incident unfolded north of Eugene, according to officials from the Oregon State Police.

Huizar was the prime suspect in the killings of two women, believed to be his ex-wife and girlfriend. The violence escalated with the abduction of his son, sparking a statewide alert in Washington and Oregon. This tragic turn of events began with the murder of his ex-wife outside William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland, Washington.

The body of a second woman, identified as Huizar’s teenage girlfriend, was discovered at his residence during a police search. Authorities expressed concerns that Huizar had intentions of fleeing to Mexico with his son, Roman Huizar, prompting an urgent search effort.

Before the series of violent events, Huizar had served as a dedicated police officer with the Yakima Police Department from June 2013 to February 2022. Reports indicate that Huizar abruptly left his position in 2022 under undisclosed circumstances.

Following a tip-off from a store clerk in North Portland, law enforcement officials attempted to locate Huizar who had entered the premises. However, by the time officers arrived at the scene, he had already fled. The situation intensified as the community and law enforcement agencies worked diligently to prevent any further harm to the child involved.

Court records revealed that Huizar faced child rape charges as per allegations made in February. The charges were related to an incident involving a 17-year-old, who was reported to be the mother of Roman Huizar. Additionally, a 16-year-old acquaintance of the teen accused Huizar of sexual assault while she was unconscious, leading to his subsequent arrest.

In the wake of these distressing events, authorities are still investigating the circumstances that led to the tragic outcome of a former police officer tangled in a web of violence and criminal allegations.
