Foxtel CEO Apologizes for Nazi Salute Photo
Foxtel‘s CEO, Patrick Delany, recently faced a serious backlash after a photo surfaced showing him performing a Nazi salute. The image, published by the media outlet Crikey, dates back to a closed set from about a decade ago when he was leading Fox Sports.
In the photo, Delany is seen with his right arm raised in a salute while pretending to mimic Adolf Hitler’s moustache with his other hand. Delany explained that he was trying to reference a gesture used by some fans of the Western Sydney Wanderers, but he stressed that this context does not excuse his actions.
Delany issued a heartfelt apology, stating that what he did was offensive and wrong. He recognized that such gestures can deeply hurt people, particularly within the Jewish community, and he expressed remorse for his actions.
David Ossip, president of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, confirmed that Delany met with Jewish leaders to apologize unreservedly. Ossip noted that Delany understood the significance of his actions and their impact not just on Jewish Australians but also on many others whose families suffered during World War II.
Following his apology, Delany committed to speaking out against anti-Semitism and plans to visit the Sydney Jewish Museum with his leadership team. This visit aims to reinforce the importance of understanding the consequences of hatred.
In an email sent to Foxtel staff, Delany reiterated his condemnation of all forms of racism and acknowledged the seriousness of his actions. The incident has reignited discussions about toxic workplace behaviors and the responsibilities of leaders in promoting inclusivity.
