The popular French singer Kendji Girac has been severely wounded by a gunshot on Monday and is currently hospitalized in Bordeaux, where his life is no longer in danger after being critical earlier, as confirmed by a source close to the situation.

At around 5:30 am on Monday, the gendarmes were summoned to the travelers’ campsite in Biscarrosse, situated on the Atlantic coast, for a man who had sustained severe gunshot wounds to the chest.

The victim, Kendji Girac, was on the brink of death at the time and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital in Bordeaux. By morning, his prognosis had improved, with his life no longer at risk, the source added, refraining from disclosing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As of now, no leads have been ruled out, according to a source close to the investigations.

Originally from Périgueux, Kendji Maillé, known by his real name, hails from a family of Catalan Romani descent and is 27 years old.

He shot to fame somewhat unexpectedly, in his own words, when his uncle released a video in August 2013 of him playing the guitar and covering Gims’ hit song, ‘Bella.’

Subsequently, he emerged victorious on the reality show The Voice and has since sold millions of records, propelled particularly by his tracks like ‘Color Gitano’ and ‘Andalouse,’ which have amassed hundreds of millions of views on YouTube.
