Fuel Transport Plane Crashes into Tanana River Near Fairbanks
A tragic incident unfolded in Fairbanks, Alaska, as a Douglas C-54 aircraft carrying fuel crashed into the Tanana River shortly after takeoff on Tuesday. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the crash occurred during a Part 91 fuel transport flight operated by Alaska Air Fuel. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that two individuals were on board the ill-fated plane.
Preliminary details indicate that the plane plunged into the frozen waters of the Tanana River after departing from Fairbanks International Airport at approximately 10 a.m. local time. The aircraft skidded into a steep hill on the riverbank before catching fire. Tragically, no survivors have been found amidst the wreckage, as per the Alaska Department of Public Safety.
