Future of Disney’s Ahsoka Series on Disney+ Remains Uncertain
Disney+ is reportedly preparing for the possibility of concluding its «Star Wars: Ahsoka» series with its upcoming second season. The decision comes amid uncertainty over the potential cancellation of the series. The first season of «Ahsoka» ended on a cliffhanger, with Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren left stranded on Peridea while Thrawn and Ezra Bridger made a successful return to the galaxy.
As of January 2024, the second season of the series was in development. However, new reports suggest that the sophomore season might be its last, according to insider reports. An unnamed source indicated that Lucasfilm is planning to craft a suitable conclusion for «Ahsoka» Season 2 should it not be renewed for a third season. This means that the finale might provide answers and reunions instead of prolonging suspense with further cliffhangers.
Despite the rumors of a possible conclusion, the «Star Wars» franchise has not officially canceled «Ahsoka» yet. A possibility for a third season still exists, and the uncertainty raises questions about the continued future of Disney+’s expansive «MandoVerse» and the studio’s confidence in «Ahsoka.»
According to an earlier report by industry insider Daniel Richtman, filming for Season 2 was slated to begin in April 2025, likely after the completion of production on «The Mandalorian.» If these plans hold, the second season of «Ahsoka» could premiere in the summer of 2026, following a schedule similar to that of the first season. Furthermore, characters from «Ahsoka» are expected to appear in «The Mandalorian,» suggesting potential crossover or continuation in storylines.
The specifics surrounding the second season’s narrative remain unclear, particularly if it airs after the related «The Mandalorian» and «Grogu.» The major anticipation leading into Season 2 is finding answers to the lingering cliffhangers from Season 1. More information might be unveiled at the Star Wars Celebration event in 2025. «Ahsoka» Season 1 is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
